Take this information to your solicitor, who can use the wording in your Will. It passes care of your pets, after your death, to the RSPCA. You can also use the form below or the letter template provided.
“In the event that any pet animal of mine survives me and I have made no other provisions for its care I direct my Trustees to notify the Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals of Wilberforce Way Southwater Horsham RH13 9RS (registered charity number 219099) as soon as practicable after my death and to request the Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals both to relieve them of responsibility for the animal and to endeavour to place it in a suitable home as soon as practicable the Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals having absolute discretion to deal with the welfare of the animal as it considers fit and I direct also that (the Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals having accepted such a request) the animal shall not form part of my residuary estate.”
Did you know that over half of the RSPCA’s annual income comes from gifts left by our supporters in their Wills? We’re incredibly grateful to these thoughtful animal lovers and, as with any donation, their gifts will be put to good use. If you would like to help with a gift to the RSPCA in your Will, your solicitor might use the following suggested wording:
“I give the sum of £____ (or specify a share of residue) to the Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals of Wilberforce Way Southwater Horsham RH13 9RS (registered charity number 219099) for its general purposes and I declare that the receipt of the honorary treasurer or other proper officer of the said Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals for the time being shall be a full and sufficient discharge for the said legacy.”
If you would like to leave a legacy to a specific RSPCA branch, your solicitor might use the following wording:
‘I give the sum of £____ (or specify a share of the residue) to the Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (specify) Branch (specify registered charity number of that Branch) and I declare that the receipt of the honorary treasurer or other proper officer of the said Branch shall be a full and sufficient discharge for the said Legacy’.
The RSPCA will always be needed. But with your help, we‘ll be able to continue working to prevent animals being cruelly treated and encourage people to treat them with more respect.
Please note, leaving us a gift in your Will is entirely discretionary and not a condition of the Home for Life scheme.
